We believe that a life-long appreciation for safety and emergency preparedness starts young. That's why the County supports programs designed to teach our children how to be aware of emergencies and provide them with essential skills to help them prepare to handle them.
Grade Seven - Is Your Family Prepared Presentation
All Middlesex County students in grade seven attend an emergency awareness program, presented by a dedicated and enthusiastic group of emergency volunteers.
Girl Guide Challenge
The Middlesex-London Health Unit is pleased to be a sponsor of the Girl Guides Emergency Preparedness Challenge. In partnership with the Health Unit, the Community Emergency Management Coordinator for Middlesex helps to deliver presentations to Girl Guide and Pathfinder groups across the County.
As every Guiding member knows, it is important to always "Be Prepared". Girls learn the risks of emergencies in their community and prepare themselves accordingly. Girl Guides of Canada, Ontario Council has partnered with Emergency Management Ontario to develop the Emergency Preparedness Challenge.
Through discussions, games, drama, visual art, and visits from emergency management professionals, girls learn about emergency preparedness, natural and human health emergencies, and gain skills that could help save lives.
As one of the sponsors for the London and Middlesex Office of the Girl Guides of Canada, the Emergency Planning office at the Middlesex-London Health Unit is sponsoring the new badges, supplying an emergency whistle to each girl, providing one board game "PX3 Emergency Strategy" to each district, donating books to the lending library, supplying relevant brochures, and delivering Emergency Preparedness Workshops. This enables each girl to complete the requirements for the Emergency Preparedness Challenge.
