  • 1 Person-$35,000.00,
  • 2 Persons-$45,000.00,
  • $2,500 for each additional person  

Simple tax situation

In general, your tax situation is simple if you have no income or if your income comes from these sources:

Employment – pension - benefits such as Canada Pension Plan, disability, employment insurance, social assistance - registered retirement savings plans (RRSP's) - support payments - scholarships, fellowships, bursaries or grants - interest (under $1,000).

Your tax situation is not simple if you:

  • are self-employed or have employment expenses
  • have business or rental income and expenses
  • have capital gains or losses
  • filed for bankruptcy
  • are completing a tax return for a deceased person

Middlesex County provides financial and employment assistance to people in need through the Ontario Works program. How much you receive depends on the size of your family, your verifiable shelter costs, your income and your willingness to participate in agreed to and approved employment activities. There also may be eligibility for other benefits such as dental care, vision care and prescription coverage.


Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP)

If you don’t have enough money for food and housing, or if you have a disability and are in financial need, you can apply for financial and employment assistance through Ontario Works or the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP).


Ontario Electricity Support Program (OESP)

The OESP is an Ontario Energy Board (OEB) program that lowers electricity bills for lower-income households. The OESP provides a monthly credit to eligible customers based on household income and household size. The OESP credits are applied directly to eligible customers’ bills.


Low-Income Energy Assistance Program (LEAP)

If you’re behind on your electricity or natural gas bill and face having your service disconnected, you may qualify for emergency financial help through the Low-income Energy Assistance Program (LEAP). There are also special customer service rules available for low-income households. You need to meet certain criteria to qualify for these programs, and must go through one of the intake agencies in Ontario.

The Canada-Ontario Housing Benefit (COHB) is a monthly portable housing benefit program that assists eligible households with their housing costs.

Nurses & Homemakers Services

Where the recommendation has been received through the Community Care Access Centre or a family physician, payment for either nursing or homemakers services may be provided by the County, once a needs test has been completed.
