County Council welcomes Councillor Aina DeViet as the New Warden of Middlesex County
MIDDLESEX COUNTY on November 28, 2023: During the Middlesex County Council Inaugural meeting today, Aina DeViet, Mayor of Middlesex Centre, was elected as the Warden of Middlesex County for the 2023/2024 term.
Mayor Aina DeViet, a seasoned public official with a proven track record of dedicated leadership, accepted the responsibilities as Warden. Her extensive experience in local governance and her passion for the community resonated with her commitment to serving the best interests of Middlesex County.
During her speech, Warden DeViet spoke on the theme of change and highlighted the next steps forward along with new opportunities in store for the future of the County.
“Change…provides us with opportunities! Opportunities to learn, re-think, adapt, leverage technologies, and move on to new ways of working. We need to take on new projects, such as renewing and redefining our County Strategic Plan, continuing conversations about diversifying our tax base and maintaining a culture of continuous improvement and modernization on processes and services with a focus on measurable outcomes. I’m humbled by the confidence and the trust my fellow Councillors have exhibited in granting me the role of Warden for the coming term, let’s work together, let’s roll up our sleeves - and get started!” said Warden DeViet.
“I extend my congratulations to Warden Aina DeViet” said Past Warden Cathy Burghardt-Jesson. “It is both an honour and a privilege to pass the torch to a dedicated fellow Councillor who has consistently demonstrated a commitment to the well-being of our community. Warden DeViet's passion for the community will undoubtedly guide Middlesex County toward a progressive future.”
As per the Procedural By-Law 7208, the Deputy Warden will be the most immediate Past Warden who is a member of the Council. Councillor Cathy Burghardt-Jesson became Deputy Warden. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Middlesex County Council, local councillors, community leaders, and residents, who eagerly expressed support for Warden DeViet.
Warden DeViet is currently serving her second term as Mayor of Middlesex Centre. This will be her first term as Warden.
