Council receives Update on Property Assessments and Municipal Taxation from MPAC
The Committee of the Whole received a delegation from the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) on property assessment in Ontario. The presentation provided an overview of MPAC’s role in Ontario’s property assessment and tax system. The delegation highlighted the provincial government’s role in establishing assessment laws and noted that property values are still based on the January 1, 2016, valuation date. MPAC also discussed its ongoing efforts to maintain accurate property data and support municipalities through financial planning tools, market analysis, and tax applications. County Council Moves Forward with New Strategic Plan Development
Middlesex County Council has directed staff to proceed with the development of Council’s next Strategic Plan through a combination of internal staff and external consultants. This hybrid approach balances the strengths of both perspectives, leveraging the deep local knowledge of County staff while bringing in fresh ideas and specialized expertise from external consultants. The new plan, expected to take effect in 2025, will guide the County in navigating future challenges and opportunities. For more information, see the Strategic Plan report.
2025 Council Meeting Dates Announced
Each year, County Council distributes a calendar that outlines Council and Library Board meetings, as well as conferences for the upcoming year. The Committee of the Whole approved the 2025 County Council and Library Board meeting schedule as presented by staff. For more information, see the proposed meeting schedule.
Recommendations made by the Committee of the Whole at the September 10, 2024 meeting will be considered by County Council at its next regular meeting on September 24, 2024. The Legislative Services Department maintains the official record for all County government proceedings.
