Middlesex County Warden’s Statement on Middlesex-London Paramedic Service Cardiac Survivor Day

MIDDLESEX COUNTY: on May 23, 2024, Warden Aina DeViet issued the following statement regarding Cardiac Survivor Day held at Fanshawe College hosted by Middlesex-London Paramedic Service.

“As the Warden of Middlesex County, it is both an honour and a privilege to be a part of Middlesex London Paramedic Service Survivor's Day.

For more than two decades, this event has marked not only the celebration of life but also the reunion of our emergency service providers and citizen bystanders – with family members and those who have bravely overcome their darkest hours with the help of these dedicated, positive and supportive people.

All of our emergency service providers, including the exemplary staff of MLPS, play a pivotal role in safeguarding our community. Their professional knowledge and skills honed through continuous learning and ongoing training, as well as their focus and dedication, have been instrumental in countless life-saving moments.

On behalf of Middlesex County Council, I extend our deepest gratitude to all of these heroes who, alongside collaborative partners from various emergency services, demonstrate unparalleled commitment during critical moments.

Let us move forward with a renewed commitment to safety, collaboration, and excellence in service to our community.  Here's to celebrating a world where every heartbeat counts and heroes who made it possible are recognized for their contributions.

Each survivor here today embodies hope, reminding us that light prevails even in those dark times. Your strength and resilience are an inspiration to us all. Now, let’s celebrate as we welcome all of the survivors, their families and guests, citizen responders, and first responders.”

Middlesex-London Paramedic Services Survivors Day is a celebration where cardiac arrest survivors have a chance to meet the first responders who saved their lives. This year, 9 brave survivors shared their stories and reunited on stage with those who saved their lives.

Someone suffers a cardiac arrest every 12 minutes in Canada, but more than 4000 new survivors return to their families each year.
