On April 28th is National Day of Mourning to remember and honour those who have died, been injured, or suffered illness in the workplace. Canadian flags on Parliament Hill and at Queen's Park fly at half-mast on April 28th. The day is traditionally marked in many ways including holding public ceremonies, wearing black and yellow ribbons, lighting candles, observing a moment of silence at 11:00 a.m. and sharing stories about how workplace tragedies have touched peoples' lives.
This day also reaffrims the County’s commitment to reduce and prevent worker illness and injury. Please join us in committing to a future where everyone goes home safely at the end of the day. We cannot change the past. We can change the future. Take some time today to watch the National Day of Mourning videos: CCOHS - National Day of Mourning, WSIB - Day of Mourning and Threads of Life - Day of Mourning.
If you or a loved one have been affected by a workplace death, injury or illness, Threads of Life, an Association for Workplace Tragedy Family Support, may be able to help. They provide peer support, information, online and in-person events to learn healthy coping skills, and the chance to use your voice for prevention of future tragedies.
