County Council to consider Crosswalk Art Policy to promote vibrant downtowns

A motion directing staff to prepare a draft Crosswalk Art Policy for Council’s consideration and approval was debated and passed by County Council. The majority of downtown cores in Middlesex County are on County Roads. A Crosswalk Art Policy, if adopted, would allow for crosswalks in these areas to be painted in ways that would help promote local municipalities and community groups. Council will consider the draft Crosswalk Art Policy at its meeting on May 24, 2022.

MLPS’ Paediatric-Neonatal Transport Unit responds to 854 calls over the past year

Council received a report from the Middlesex-London Paramedic Service (MLPS) with respect to its Paediatric-Neonatal Transport Unit. The unit, staffed by MLPS paramedics and a Children’s Hospital of Western Ontario specialty transport team, travelled 98,310.97 km and responded to 854 calls between March 1, 2021 and March 31, 2022. Fully funded by the Province of Ontario, the Paediatric-Neonatal Transport Unit provides critical services to some of the most vulnerable citizens in Middlesex County and Southwestern Ontario.

Committee hears Economic Development Department’s plans to support local communities and businesses in 2022

The Committee of the Whole heard from the County’s Economic Development and Tourism team about its current and upcoming projects, including the launch of the 2022 Community Improvement Plan Implementation Program (CIP) and the Tourism Initiative Sponsorship. County launches new website and communications strategy to better serve residents and businesses 

The Committee of the Whole received an update on the implementation of the Middlesex County Communications Strategy and the launch of the County’s new website. Thanks to its improved appearance and navigation, the County’s new website is making it easier for residents and businesses to access County programs and services and to stay up to date on Council decisions. Donnybrook Industrial Condominium receives green light from Committee

The Committee of the Whole passed a resolution recommending that County Council approve a proposed Plan of Condominium for lands within the Donnybrook Industrial Area. The proposed plan would create six vacant land condominium units (lots) on a six-hectare (15 acre) property near Dorchester currently designated as Rural Industrial. After reviewing materials, County staff provided an opinion that the proposed plan is consistent with the Provincial Policy Statement, conforms with both the County and local Official Plan, and represents sound land use planning. Plans for new federally funded HVAC System at Strathmere Lodge underway

A recommendation to award a contract for a new HVAC system at Strathmere Lodge was approved by the Committee of the Whole. The HVAC upgrade, set to take place later this year and at a cost of approximately $2,235,000, will be paid for using federal funds received by the Lodge under the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP). County Council will decide whether to adopt the Committee’s recommendation to award the contract to Linde Mechanical at its meeting on May 10, 2022.

Adoption of Committee of the Whole Recommendations from April 5, 2022

County Council adopted all recommendations made by the Committee of the Whole at its meeting on April 5, 2022.

Recommendations made by the Committee of the Whole at the April 26, 2022 meeting will be considered by County Council at its next regular meeting on May 10, 2022. The Legislative Services Department maintains the official record for all County government proceedings.
