Middlesex Municipal Day 2023 hosted by North Middlesex

MIDDLESEX COUNTY - On May 2, 2023, the Municipality of North Middlesex hosted the 2023 Middlesex Municipal Day at the North Middlesex District Community Centre. The event saw over 90 delegates from the County of Middlesex, Local Municipalities, the Middlesex-London Paramedic Services, the Middlesex County Library Board, local Conservation Authorities, and various community partners.

At the event, delegates heard from leading local businesses, organizations, and star athletes including the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority, Bog Line Smokers, Sylvan Alpacas, Jocelyn Amos, Honeyland Ag Services, and the Ailsa Craig Art Centre. Collaboration, innovation, resilience, and change were some of the key messages highlighted during the speaker’s presentations.

The meeting closed with a State of the Union address from Middlesex County Warden Cathy Burghardt-Jesson who spoke on the theme of change. The Warden highlighted the rapid growth and change Middlesex County has experienced in recent years. She emphasized the challenges faced, including demographic shifts, post-COVID-19 service demands, inflation, and modernization. The Warden acknowledged that the County's growth has put pressure on housing, infrastructure, and service delivery. She also touched on demographic changes, the increased demand for mental health services, and the need for improved digital infrastructure. Despite these challenges, Burghardt-Jesson expressed optimism and pride, citing Middlesex County's strategic plan, The Middlesex Initiative - Breaking New Ground, which focuses on cultivating community vitality, connecting through infrastructure, strengthening the economy, and promoting service excellence.
