Middlesex County Completes Major Broadband Expansion with SWIFT

The Committee of the Whole received an update that the Southwestern Integrated Fibre Technology (SWIFT) broadband expansion project has been successfully completed. In 2017, Middlesex County contributed $784,063 to the project, with the expectation that the infrastructure built would be valued at a number at least four times that amount. The final infrastructure investment totaled $15.2 million, representing 19.4 times the original contribution. The project, which involved seven implementation phases, resulted in the construction of 225.2 kilometers of fibre optic network and the connection of over 1,800 properties in the County.
