Middlesex County Council Meeting Highlights – October 11, 2022
Economic Development Council Update
Staff provided an update on the Economic Development and Tourism department and its work over the past year to help foster business and economic growth in Middlesex communities. Staff reported on a number of exciting projects, including the EV Chargers project, a specially funded tourism initiative, which will bring EV chargers to locations across the County, and the Spark Mentorships and Grants Tourism Program designed to encourage innovative tourism ideas in the County. Plans underway to extend the County’s temporary shelter pilot project
The Committee of the Whole approved plans to extend the County’s temporary shelter pilot project through Phase 5 of funding under the Social Services Relief Fund (SSRF) and the Homeless Prevention Program funds. Since 2020, the homelessness population within Middlesex County has continued to grow. In response, the County launched a temporary shelter pilot project in collaboration with Countryside Motel and the Middlesex Canadian Mental Health Association Thames Valley Addiction and Mental Health Services. This project has helped to temporarily shelter and provide wrap around services and supports to over 65 individuals and families with children. New County Highway by-law approved by County Council
County Council approved new by-laws to regulate activities on County Highways and to amend the enforcement provisions of the Parking By-Law. Under the authority of the Municipal Act, Municipalities across Ontario have the power to regulate activities along public highways under their jurisdiction. Adoption of Committee of the Whole Recommendations from October 11, 2022
County Council adopted all recommendations made by the Committee of the Whole at its meeting on October 11, 2022.
Recommendations made by the Committee of the Whole at the October 11, 2022 meeting will be considered by County Council at its next regular meeting on October 25, 2022. The Legislative Services Department maintains the official record for all County government proceedings.
