Middlesex-London Health Unit’s request for Redirection of 2022 Surplus Funds
The Committee of the Whole received a delegation from the Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) on a request for redirection of surplus funds. With planning underway for the 2024 MLHU budget, the MLHU is facing a significant budget shortfall. As such, the MLHU requested both the County of Middlesex and the City of London’s permission to use the Municipal portions of the surplus to pay down the variable bank loan. The City of London portion of $423,548 and the County of Middlesex portion of $80,676 combined would reduce the variable bank loan from $1,001,458 to $497,234 (as at July 2023) and provide significant additional financial relief to the agency. The Committee of the Whole approved the application of the County of Middlesex's share of MLHU's 2022 surplus in the amount of $80,676 to reduce the outstanding amount of MLHU's variable bank loan. For more information, see the Request for Redirection of Surplus Funds.
Southwest Middlesex Official Plan Amendment No. 3 Approval
The Committee of the Whole recommended approval with modifications of Amendment No. 3 of the Municipality of Southwest Middlesex Official Plan. The Municipality of Southwest Middlesex has undertaken a General Official Plan Update to align with provincial requirements, including the 2020 Provincial Policy Statement and the County Official Plan. Amendment No. 3 aims to incorporate these updates and addresses various planning matters such as residential units, agricultural land use, and environmental considerations. The analysis highlights the local planning process, minimal public input, and positive feedback from agencies, including input from local First Nations and conservation authorities. The recommended modifications aim to enhance clarity, correct errors, and align with changing legislation. For more information on this approval, check out the October 10, 2023 Agenda.
